S.M. Krishna, Ex-Karnataka CM and External Affairs Minister, Dies

S.M. Krishna, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, passed away at the age of 92 after battling prolonged illness. The Karnataka government has announced three days of mourning, and his last rites will be performed with full state honors.

Born on May 1, 1932, in Somanahalli, Karnataka, Krishna began his political career in 1962. He served as Karnataka’s 16th Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004 and was known for his efforts to transform Bengaluru into the Silicon Valley of India. He also served as the External Affairs Minister under the UPA government from 2009 to 2012.

Krishna resigned from Congress in 2017 and joined the BJP. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan earlier this year in recognition of his remarkable political journey.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences, calling Krishna a “remarkable leader” admired by all. He also praised Krishna’s contributions to Karnataka’s development and his intellectual nature.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge also paid tribute, highlighting Krishna’s legacy of leadership and his vision for Bengaluru as a global city.

Krishna’s passing is deeply mourned by his supporters and the state, as his contributions continue to shape the region’s growth and infrastructure.
