“NTA To Focus On Entrance Exams From 2025”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that starting in 2025, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will focus only on conducting entrance exams for higher education institutions. The NTA will no longer handle recruitment exams. This decision is part of ongoing efforts to improve the examination process using technology.

Pradhan mentioned that the government is exploring the use of computer-adaptive tests and tech-driven entrance exams in the future. Regarding the NEET-UG exam, he said that discussions are ongoing with the Health Ministry to decide whether it will stay in pen-paper format or shift to online. He also confirmed that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG will continue to be held annually.

The Minister also shared plans to restructure the NTA in 2025, which includes adding 10 new positions to strengthen the agency. This follows concerns about exam integrity, especially after a NEET UG paper leak and cancellations of exams due to malpractice. In July, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition calling for a re-test of NEET UG 2024, saying there was no clear evidence of a leak.

These changes are part of the government’s effort to make the exam process more efficient and transparent.
