Modi’s Third Term Brings Free Health Cover for Seniors Over 70!”
The Indian government has approved a big move to provide universal health coverage for senior citizens. Starting now, all those above 70 years, no matter their income, will get health insurance under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
This decision aims to ensure better care for India’s elderly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi first announced this expansion in April. Here’s what it means:
- Free Health Insurance: Senior citizens over 70 will get free health insurance up to ₹5 lakh per year per family. This plan will help 4.5 crore families and benefit around 6 crore senior citizens.
- New AB PM-JAY Cards: Eligible seniors will receive a new, special card under the AB PM-JAY scheme.
- Extra Coverage: Those already covered under AB PM-JAY will receive an additional top-up of up to ₹25 lakh per year.
- Flexible Options: Seniors over 70 using other health insurance schemes, like CGHS, ECHS, or Ayushman CAPF, can continue with their current plan or switch to AB PM-JAY.
This initiative promises better health protection for seniors, ensuring they can access quality medical care without worrying about costs.
