Jaishankar to Speak on Bangladesh Crisis
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will make a statement in Parliament on Tuesday about the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on Monday to discuss the issue. The meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Background: Sheikh Hasina, the embattled leader of Bangladesh, arrived at the Hindon airbase near Delhi on Monday after resigning as prime minister amid deadly anti-government protests that killed nearly 300 people. She was supposed to travel to London, but British Foreign Secretary David Lammy called for a UN investigation into the recent events in Bangladesh.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Hasina at the airbase, and she was moved to a safe location. Jaishankar is expected to address the situation in Parliament on Tuesday.
Uddhav Thackeray’s Delhi Visit
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will visit Delhi for three days starting Tuesday. He will meet leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, including members from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Uddhav will also have discussions with Ramesh Chennithala from the All India Congress Committee and meet with Marathi and national media.
Delhi High Court to Hear Ghazipur Drain Deaths Case
The Delhi High Court will hear a case on Tuesday regarding the deaths of a mother and her son who fell into an open drain in Ghazipur during heavy rains on July 31. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) claimed the drain is under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Incident Details: Tanuja (22) and her son Priyansh (3) drowned in the drain on a waterlogged street in east Delhi. Their bodies were found with the mother still holding her child. The DDA stated the drain was transferred to the MCD on April 13.
