India-Maldives Row: Bookings Suspended, Boycott Calls, #ChaloLakshadweep Campaign And All That’s Happening.
India has summoned the Maldives envoy after three ministers of the Maldives nation made derogatory remarks against India. This comes as the Maldives government on Sunday suspended three ministers Mariyum Shiuna, Malsha Shareef, and Mahzoom Majid over their derogatory remarks against India. India has officially raised its protest with the Maldives over an “insult” to the Prime Minister. Maldives High Commission Ibrahim Shaheeb visited the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
Some Indian social media users responded to the mockery of the Maldives by vowing not to vacation there and by promoting a boycott of Maldivian hotels and resorts. Travel portal EaseMyTrip also suspended all flight bookings to Maldives, as a retort to the move. Indian celebrities, athletes, and entrepreneurs, such as Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar, Pooja Hegde, Madhur Bhandarkar, PV Sindhu, Shilpa Shetty, Varun Dhawan, and Kunal Bahl, the co-founder of Snapdeal, have written about their travel aspirations, expressing a desire to visit Lakshadweep. “In support of our nation, @EaseMyTrip .. EaseMyTrip began the Visit Lakshadweep campaign by #ChaloLakshadweep.”
