The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining democracy in Delhi’s MCD after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, acting on PM Modi’s orders, overturned the postponement of the Standing Committee vote. AAP leader Manish Sisodia claimed the BJP is unfairly trying to seize control, with councillors allegedly tipped off in advance about the LG’s directive.
The election, postponed by Mayor Shelly Oberoi after a chaotic session, was resumed later following the LG’s intervention from the US, directing the vote to be held by 10 pm. While AAP slammed this move, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva accused AAP of avoiding the vote due to internal distrust, despite their majority in the council.
