Today, the Supreme Court delivered a pivotal ruling in favor of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, granting him interim bail amidst allegations by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering probe linked to Delhi’s former excise policy. Despite this relief, Kejriwal remains in judicial custody until July 12 for a separate corruption case filed by the CBI.
The bench, comprising Justices Ssanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, underscored the paramount importance of personal liberty, noting Kejriwal’s prolonged detention of over 90 days. They referred significant legal questions to a larger bench for further examination, highlighting the complexity and gravity of the issues involved.
“In recognition of our findings on the grounds of arrest, we have decided to grant interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal. The right to life and liberty is fundamental, and in light of the necessity for deeper scrutiny by a larger bench, we direct the release of Arvind Kejriwal on interim bail,” declared the bench.
This decision marks a critical juncture in Kejriwal’s legal battle, resonating with broader implications for civil liberties and legal justice in the country.
