West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will visit Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, on December 30 for a public distribution programme. This marks her first visit since protests erupted earlier this year over allegations of harassment and land-grabbing involving TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh.
Banerjee’s visit aims to distribute benefits from state schemes like ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ and ‘Banglar Bari’ to over 20,000 beneficiaries. She will also hand over certificates to 100 individuals.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari plans a ‘Jana Sanjog Yatra’ in the area soon after her visit.
The Sandeshkhali region, part of Basirhat, gained attention in February due to protests over land grabs and harassment by local TMC figures. Sheikh was arrested by the CBI, though the TMC maintained its electoral success in the region.
