Kangana Calls Out Bollywood for Emergency Snub

Kangana Ranaut’s solo directorial debut, Emergency, has faced delays due to censorship issues and still doesn’t have a release date. In a recent interview with News18, Kangana expressed frustration that her film isn’t receiving the same support from the film industry and political figures as past films like Padmaavat and Udta Punjab did when they faced censorship problems.

Kangana pointed out that films like Padmaavat and Udta Punjab had strong backing despite controversies. She said, “While those films had government protection and were eventually released, my film, Emergency, hasn’t seen similar support. No one from the Congress party or the film industry has stood up for me, and I feel very alone in this fight.”

Kangana’s Emergency, where she plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was supposed to release on September 6, but its certification was withdrawn after objections from a Sikh group. Only fellow filmmaker Varun Grover publicly criticized the delay, calling it ironic.

In 2016, Udta Punjab faced protests for depicting Punjab’s drug issues, while in 2018, Padmaavat faced delays and threats from fringe groups over its portrayal of historical events.
