External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will speak in the Rajya Sabha at 2 PM today regarding the deportation of alleged illegal Indian immigrants from the US. This follows an uproar in the Lok Sabha, where opposition members, mainly from Congress, raised the issue, leading to an adjournment till noon. Speaker Om Birla assured the House that the government is taking the matter seriously.
On Wednesday, a US military plane brought 104 alleged illegal Indian immigrants to Amritsar. Among them, many were from Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat. The crackdown on illegal immigrants started under Donald Trump’s administration.
The issue is seen as crucial to foreign relations, with both countries having their own rules regarding immigration.
