Semma, located in New York, serves authentic South Indian food, focusing on Chettinad dishes from Tamil Nadu. Chef Vijaya Kumar, originally from Natham, Tamil Nadu, brought his childhood flavors to the restaurant, which quickly earned its first Michelin star within a year of opening.
Chef Vijaya Kumar’s journey includes running Dosa and Rasa in San Francisco, with Rasa also receiving a Michelin star. Now, his collaboration with Unapologetic Foods and his team at Semma has raised the bar for authentic Indian dining in the US.
