IND Vs AUS, 4th Test: Why Was Jaiswal Given Out Without Edge?

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal in the 4th Test between India and Australia sparked controversy. Batting on 84, Jaiswal mishit a hook shot to a short-pitched delivery from Pat Cummins, and Australia appealed for caught behind. The on-field umpire, Joel Wilson, turned it down.

When Australia reviewed the call, replays showed a clear deflection off the bat, but the Snicko meter didn’t show a spike. The third umpire ruled that there was a deflection, overriding the on-field decision. Jaiswal protested before walking off.

The controversy arose from the fact that Snicko didn’t show a clear spike, leaving some to question whether the third umpire had enough conclusive evidence to overturn the decision. According to ICC rules, the third umpire must be highly confident to change the on-field decision. Warren Brennan, owner of Snicko, said only HotSpot could have definitively resolved the situation, but HotSpot wasn’t used in the series.
