“Budget Session: BJP Deals with Allies’

The new Parliament session is off to a dramatic start. With the BJP-led NDA government struggling with a fractured majority, it’s leaning on allies like N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) to navigate the session.

The Opposition is up in arms about a controversial directive requiring eateries on the Kanwar Yatra route to display the religion of their staff, calling it divisive and demanding government intervention.

States like Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha are pushing hard for Special Category Status, which offers extra financial support. The BJP has repeatedly said it won’t grant this status to new states.

There are also calls for better Parliament functioning, including more debate and reopening the historic Central Hall to improve MP interactions. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget, and several important bills, including an update to the 90-year-old Aircraft Act, are on the agenda.
