An old 2020 tweet about Islam, featuring a photo of a Muslim family, sparked outrage. The tweet, translated by Variety, mocked women wearing burkas, calling it “deeply disgusting of humanity.”

Gascón’s Apology

In a statement to Variety, she addressed the controversy:
💬 “I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt. As someone from a marginalized community, I know this suffering well, and I deeply regret causing pain.”

She added that she has always fought for a better world and believes that “light will always triumph over darkness.”
