Ghai on Taal: Rahman & Bakshi’s Language Struggles

Subhash Ghai shared an interesting fact about his film Taal, highlighting the unique partnership between composer AR Rahman and lyricist Anand Bakshi. In an interview, he mentioned that there was a communication gap between them because Rahman didn’t speak Hindi, while Bakshi didn’t know English. Ghai initially placed a harmonium between them, hoping for a musical exchange, but they ended up in silence for 15 minutes. Eventually, Rahman composed the music first, and Bakshi wrote the lyrics.

Taal starred Aishwarya Rai, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor and tells a love story about a business tycoon’s son and an aspiring singer, exploring themes of class divide.
