“Affordable US Travel Destinations for Budget Travelers”

Looking to take a budget-friendly vacation in 2024? Even though travel costs have risen by 3.1% this year, you can still find great deals if you know where to go.

A recent report from the U.K.’s Post Office, which tracks travel expenses in 40 popular destinations, reveals some of the cheapest places to visit. This report, known as the Holiday Money Report 2024, looks at the cost of eight key tourist essentials—coffee, beer, cola, wine, water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a three-course meal—to help travelers find the best value for their money. While it doesn’t cover hotel or airfare costs, it gives a good idea of where your money will go the furthest.

Here are some of the top affordable destinations for 2024:

  1. Hoi An, Vietnam – With an average daily cost of just $64.51, Hoi An tops the list. This charming city boasts a UNESCO-recognized Ancient Town, lantern-lit streets, and stunning nearby beaches.
  2. Cape Town, South Africa – Coming in second, Cape Town offers an estimated daily cost of $68.48. Enjoy breathtaking views of Table Mountain, vibrant culture, and delicious dining without breaking the bank.
  3. Mombasa, Kenya – This coastal city ranks third with a daily cost of $71.30. Mombasa features beautiful white-sand beaches, lively markets, and rich Swahili heritage.
  4. Tokyo, Japan – Surprisingly affordable, Tokyo costs around $74.43 per day. The city combines traditional and modern attractions, with reasonably priced essentials like wine and water.
  5. Algarve, Portugal – Rounding out the top five, the Algarve costs about $80.52 a day. Enjoy its sun-drenched beaches, historic towns, and tasty seafood.
