Following their defeat in the Maharashtra assembly elections, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) is facing increasing pressure to break away from the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition for the upcoming local body elections.
Several party leaders feel that the alliance with Congress and NCP has hurt their voter base and want to contest elections independently, focusing on Hindutva and regional issues. Thackeray is said to be reevaluating the benefits of staying in the MVA ahead of the civic polls, especially in Mumbai, where the party historically held power.
Congress has stated they will respect Shiv Sena’s decision regarding their future in the coalition.
