The BCCI is planning to introduce new rules, limiting players’ wives and families to stay only for 2 weeks during long tours. This decision comes after issues observed during India’s tour of Australia, where team bonding seemed to be missing.
A report by TOI highlighted that players were often traveling in separate groups, with only one team dinner held during the entire two-month tour. Even after winning the first Test in Perth, no celebratory dinner was organized, and players spent time in smaller groups instead of coming together.
The BCCI believes that frequent family presence and personal entourages may be affecting team unity. Some players even requested separate hotels or made their own travel plans. These factors are seen as reasons for the lack of togetherness in the team, despite the consistent performance over the years.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir has also acted on this issue by canceling optional training sessions. He insists that all players train together to build stronger team spirit.
