Abhijit Mukherjee, son of former President Pranab Mukherjee, has rejoined the Congress party after leaving Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC). He officially joined the party in Kolkata in the presence of senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir and other state leaders.
Mir confirmed that Mukherjee had been in touch with Congress leadership for over a year and decided to return. In 2021, Abhijit had left Congress to join TMC after the party won the West Bengal elections for the third time. His sister, Sharmistha Mukherjee, also quit Congress in 2020 but did not join any other party.
