Kerala Landslide: 150+ Dead, Rescue Ongoing

Heavy rains in Kerala triggered landslides that have killed more than 150 people. The landslides struck Wayanad district early Tuesday, leaving many stranded. Rescue workers are battling tough conditions, including heavy rain, power outages, and damaged roads, to save lives.

Emergency responders are using inflatable boats and helicopters, though weather is challenging their efforts. So far, about 1,000 people have been rescued. Local resident Janaki described her terrifying experience as her family took shelter from falling debris. Medical teams are treating many injured, some with severe injuries.

The climate crisis is worsening monsoon impacts, causing devastating flooding and landslides across the region. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences and announced financial aid for victims’ families.
