In a recent news that is trending the internet, a chai wala has paid 1.5 cr as dowry for his six daughters that he married off.
There is a video which has gone viral in which the chai Wala is seen loudly counting out the money before handing it over to the groom’s respectively.
There are questions being raised about the sources of income of the family and also if tax has been paid on the same. The family is under scrutiny now by the tax officials and they are awaiting for a while before they impose a hefty fine on the family related to this income.
All said and done, what is the shocking part is that no family in India is exempted from the wrought of dowry. It may be in form of cash which is openly asked by the groom or in the form of gifts taken by the bride according to customs. No matter how much you earn or how poor you are, the day you have a daughter, you need to start saving for her dowry. Families struggle for food but they will never let a penny less be spend for their daughter. No matter how many generations come and go, we wonder if this trend will fade away or not. We hope for the best that this trend goes away and we give our daughters what we want to with our love and not due to societal pressure.
