A tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela festival in Prayagraj, India, on January 29, 2025, has left at least seven dead and around 10 injured. The incident occurred early in the morning when millions of devotees gathered to take a holy dip at the confluence of three rivers. Witnesses reported a massive push from behind, causing people to fall on top of one another.

The stampede happened near barricades set up to manage the crowd. Emergency responders quickly arrived, and videos from the scene showed stretchers carrying the victims while others tried to help. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured that the situation was under control but urged people to avoid the area. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences for the loss of lives.
