Delhi NCR experienced an earthquake on Monday morning, with tremors shaking the region at 5:36 am. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported a 4.0 magnitude earthquake in New Delhi at a depth of 5 km.
Many residents in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad ran out of their buildings after feeling strong tremors. A passenger at New Delhi Railway Station said, “It felt like the bridge was collapsing.” A Noida resident shared, “The whole building was shaking… My family rushed outside. It was very strong.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, urging people to stay calm and follow safety measures. Delhi Police also shared an emergency contact, asking people to Dial 112 for help.
The earthquake’s epicenter was near Dhaula Kuan, close to Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education. Experts say this area has seen smaller quakes in the past, including a 3.3 magnitude quake in 2015.
A few hours after the Delhi NCR earthquake, another 4.0 magnitude earthquake was reported in Siwan, Bihar, at 8:02 am. It occurred at a depth of 10 km, according to NCS.
People are advised to stay alert for aftershocks and follow safety guidelines.
