New Delhi: Cyclone Dana made landfall on the Odisha coast late Thursday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. Wind speeds reached up to 110 km/h in Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Balasore, while conditions in West Bengal also worsened.
The storm moved north-northwest at 15 km/h before hitting between Kendrapara and Bhadrak. IMD officials state that the cyclone will weaken throughout Friday but will continue to cause heavy rain across the region.
As Dana affects Odisha, Bihar is also bracing for impact, with alerts for heavy rain and strong winds. More than 34 districts are experiencing cloud cover, leading to a drop in temperatures by 1-6 degrees Celsius.
Rain is expected in eastern and south-central Bihar, with the heaviest downpours in the Kosi and Seemanchal districts. Thunderstorms and winds of 20-40 km/h are forecast for 24 districts, including Patna and Aurangabad.
Officials warn that the effects of Dana will linger into Saturday, with ongoing thunderstorms and lightning. Residents are advised to stay safe and take precautions.
