Delhi’s air quality has worsened recently, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to invoke Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). As of 8 AM, the air quality index (AQI) reached 317, placing it in the “very poor” category.

• Forecast: Continued very poor air quality due to weather conditions and stubble burning in nearby states.

GRAP Stage 2 Measures

Under Stage 2, several restrictions are in place:

• Coal and Firewood: Use of these fuels is restricted.
• Diesel Generators: Limited use of diesel generators in the Delhi-NCR.
• Dust Control: Daily mechanical sweeping and water sprinkling on roads.
• Traffic Management: More traffic personnel deployed, higher parking fees to discourage private vehicles, and increased public transport options.

Residents are advised to use public transport, avoid personal vehicles, and refrain from burning waste.

What’s Next?

If the AQI hits 401-450 (Stage 3), more stringent measures will be implemented, including:

• Frequent road sweeping and enhanced public transport.
• Bans on mining and stone-crushing activities.
• Restrictions on certain vehicle types.
• Possible suspension of physical classes for younger children.

If the AQI exceeds 450 (Stage 4), even stricter actions will follow, including a complete truck entry ban and limitations on construction activities.
