A tragic accident occurred when a Jeju Air flight from Bangkok to South Korea crashed during its landing attempt on Sunday. The Boeing 737-800, with 181 people on board, declared a “mayday” after being warned of a bird strike during its first landing attempt at Muan airport.
The pilot attempted a second landing but the plane, with its landing gear still retracted, made a belly landing.
Of the 179 people who died, 175 were passengers, mostly Korean, with two survivors, both flight attendants, rescued from the wreckage.
