External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will make a statement in Parliament on Tuesday about the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on Monday to discuss the issue. The meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Background: Sheikh Hasina, the embattled leader of Bangladesh, arrived at the Hindon airbase near Delhi on Monday after resigning as prime minister amid deadly anti-government protests that killed nearly 300 people. She was supposed to travel to London, but British Foreign Secretary David Lammy called for a UN investigation into the recent events in Bangladesh.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Hasina at the airbase, and she was moved to a safe location. Jaishankar is expected to address the situation in Parliament on Tuesday.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will visit Delhi for three days starting Tuesday. He will meet leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc, including members from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Uddhav will also have discussions with Ramesh Chennithala from the All India Congress Committee and meet with Marathi and national media.
