The sudden death of 26-year-old Anna Sebastian Perayil, a Chartered Accountant at EY Pune, has shocked many and raised concerns about toxic work environments. Anna’s mother, Anita Augustine, wrote a heartbreaking letter to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani, expressing her belief that her daughter’s stress and exhaustion from work contributed to her tragic passing. She also noted that no one from EY attended Anna’s funeral.
In response, Memani shared his sadness on LinkedIn, acknowledging the tragedy and empathizing with Anna’s mother as a fellow parent. He expressed regret over the company’s absence at the funeral, stating, “This is completely alien to our culture. It has never happened before; it will never happen again.”
Memani emphasized the importance of creating a healthy workplace and assured his commitment to nurturing a supportive environment at EY.
