Don’t miss this hidden paradise in Thailand

Tucked away in a lush jungle, far from the bustling party scene of Koh Phangan, lies The Sanctuary Thailand—a serene haven that feels like an island paradise. Imagine waking up to the sounds of roosters crowing, the occasional monkey, and the playful chirps of a local gecko. It’s a place where a planned two-day stay often turns into a month-long retreat!

The Sanctuary Experience

At The Sanctuary, there’s something for everyone: from detox programs and jungle yoga retreats to workshops at the tea temple and relaxing spa treatments. I arrived after a long journey involving three flights, two boats, and a hike over a hill. I had initially booked just two nights but quickly extended to four.

The Sanctuary offers a range of bungalows. I started in a hillside bungalow with a sea view, priced at $55 per night. As a solo traveler, I opted for a more affordable garden bungalow at $28 per night. The sanctuary also keeps some bungalows open for guests who decide to extend their stay.

A Community of Like-Minded Souls

The strong hippie vibe and welcoming community made it easy to connect with others. Guests come here for various reasons—stress relief, burnout recovery, or personal transformation. I met people from all walks of life, including a regular who has been coming for 25 years! For me, it was all about managing stress and anxiety.

Culinary Delights and Relaxation

The on-site restaurant at Haad Tien Beach offers mouthwatering dishes prepared with fresh ingredients delivered daily. The menu caters to all tastes with vegetarian, seafood, and raw vegan options. From fresh green smoothies and delicious curries to pad Thai, the food was a highlight of my stay. The Penang curry, in particular, was irresistibly good, and the resident kitten lounging around added a charming touch.

Yoga and Wellness

The daily yoga sessions were a standout feature of my stay. I enjoyed Peter Clifford’s Anahata yoga class and Ben’s afternoon Vinyasa sessions, which enhanced both my mental and physical well-being. Spending time in hammocks, napping on Why Nam Beach, and indulging in massages were just the cherry on top.

Exploring Koh Phangan

For those with an adventurous spirit, Koh Phangan offers exciting explorations. A fishing boat from Haad Tien Bay to Haad Rin is a fun day trip, though it can be tricky if the weather isn’t ideal. From Haad Rin, a taxi ride takes you to Koh Ma, an uninhabited island perfect for snorkeling. Don’t miss watching the sunset from the Amsterdam Bar terrace—it’s a memorable experience.

Returning to The Sanctuary

Returning to The Sanctuary can be a bit of an adventure, especially in the evening or when the waves are high. Alternatively, you can hike back to Haad Rin, but be prepared with plenty of water and mosquito repellent. The views are worth it, though you might encounter some pesky mozzies!

Around The Sanctuary

If you’re ready to venture beyond The Sanctuary, Why Nam Beach offers a great vibe. The Bamboo Hut nearby features an open-air restaurant and bungalows for rent. For a stunning view of The Sanctuary and the surrounding jungle, take an easier hike to a cliff on the way to Why Nam Beach.
